MEDICAL RECORDS FOUND IMPROPERLY DISCARDED

An article posted to the website of San Antonio, TX-based TV Station WOAI on August 14th reports that a local drug testing and rehab service discarded personal medical information without properly destroying it first. After being alerted by an anonymous tipster, the TV station’s “Trouble Shooters” found the records detailing medical histories of clients with diseases and drug addictions, and documents showing sexual abuse. Other personal information was found in the records, including Social Security numbers, according to the posting.

Reportedly, the testing center is losing its contract as a result of the incident, and the Attorney General’s office is looking into it.
