DÉJÀ VU ALL OVER AGAIN: DEFUNCT MORTGAGE COMPANY
Based on a tip, Kalamazoo, MI-based, Newschannel-3 found a dumpster full of mortgage records, reports an article posted to the broadcaster’s website on July 15th. According to the article, discarding the records in such a manner violates the state’s destruction requirement.

It was further reported that, while the mortgage company discarding the records no longer exists, an old manager was tracked down from a name on the letterhead. The sheriff's office is continuing to investigate this particular case.

According to Michigan law, if convicted, the person or persons responsible will face a misdemeanor charge, which could include jail time and potentially up to a $1,000 fine.
